registering 16 year olds to vote 1279
It's back and has passed the house. Needs to just stay in committee. We have enough voter fraud. If kids can't register to vote, they also can't learn how to vote.

This bill will drop on Monday. It is the one forbidding sexual orientation counseling of minors. Nooooooooooooo!
Tuesday, January 21, 2014
2148 has a companion bill 6359
The bill will be introduced tomorrow and assigned a committee.
minimum wage
The state wants to raise the starting salaries by formula instead of letting market forces work. Private industry deals with it by moving the business, hiring fewer workers, not hiring entry level workers, etc. The government has to cut somewhere else. Too many examples to list. Need to follow the example the legislature was so pleased Boeing followed. No guaranteed pension, less raises than desired.
There are also bills that would provide a training wage, etc.
Pray for wisdom to actually provide jobs, not pay off contributors.

Bill list to pray for --- very very long
I have a long list because, although a lot of bills will go no where, we want to pray the good bills to have hearings and the bad bills not to have them. Pick a topic to work on, do one a day, or what ever the Lord tells you. More bills will come up. 2148 abortion, 2154 family, 2080 government probably most important.

Behind
There are some excuses for not being as up on this as I would like.
1. They are bringing bills up without warning. There is a bill that will stop it, but the very people doing it have to vote for stopping it. More about that bill when I can get in here.
2. I do have a life and I couldn't keep up with the volume of bills. I am catching up but not there yet.
So I apologize.
Hopefully I will be caught up and have the hearings for the rest of this week up sometime tomorrow. I know I have missed some of the hearings happening tomorrow. Just can't get it done and you all have plans for tomorrow anyway. If you are at the capital you can see what is being heard and if not just pray or watch to see if I get something up before the afternoon.
Again sorry for the delay.

2080 Vacating tribal fishing convictions
This bill will remove from the records a conviction for trying to get back the treaty fishing rights owed the tribes. They won in court. This was our civil rights and it would be like removing a conviction for Rosa Parks for staying at the front of the bus.

schools
This is a general post not about particular bills. It looks like some of the legislators are introducing bills that require some of the issues addressed by the courts also be addressed in collective bargaining agreements. This would be a good thing. However, addressing it and getting results are not the same thing. Soooo. I would ask that there be ongoing prayer about the unions making concessions in favor of the students. Novel idea. Notice I said unions not teachers.

2148, 2127, 2139 Monday hearing
All are being heard by the same committee Monday the 13th at 1:30PM in the House. There will be a huge crown due to 2148 so you can't miss it.
2148 is obviously bad as it requires all insurance to cover abortion if it covers pregnancy.
2127 and 2139 created oversight of medical personnel. It is reprogramming, I mean retraining, on topics the bodies choose. I suspect the topic of choice will be abortion, birth control, sexual identity, you get the picture.
Come if you can to sign in opposed to the bills. You don't have to stay. You are on record, the press looks at the people in the halls. There will be plenty of people in the overflow rooms. I go, sign in, look for someone taking pictures, pose, and go run errands. No sense wasting a drive to Olympia.
If you can't attend, call the hotline. For the 2 suspect bills, just they seem unnecessary since they have no real pressing purpose and we are supposed to be saving money. Can be used to intimidate people with unpopular views, whether prolife, natural substances v big pharma, etc.

ballot measures
Really, really long list of bills to be introduced and they waited until Friday. I am working on it.
There are 2 initiatives that if passed will not have to go to the ballot and 3 constitutional amendments that if passed will be on the ballot.
The initiatives are competing gun control issues.
594 wants more background checks - this is not an issue, keeping track of the people they already know are dangerous doesn't happen and that is an issue. OPPOSE
591 restricts taking of firearms without due process and forbids background checks past federal standards. SUPPORT
4211 changes the constitution to require a 3/5 vote of both houses to raise taxes like the voters keep passing but the court said we can't. SUPPORT
4213 creates term limits for legislators. This can be a mixed bag, but there are only a few people we would like to stay compared to the opposite so SUPPORT
4212 is emergency powers. I need to do more research on this one. Yes, we need to be prepared, but considering who is in power, not sure they don't already have enough power. We have survived thus far without it and through a world war when a shell landed in Oregon.

Senator Shin
I am pasting a Q13 news article in part.
In his letter to the Gov. Jay Inslee, his legislative colleagues and his constituents, Shin said, ““It is with the deepest regret that I resign from the Senate. I have loved this place and the work we do here on behalf of the people of Washington. Unfortunately, I have determined with the assistance of my family that recent health problems and a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease make it impossible for me to represent my constituents in the manner they deserve.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your help and support over the years. It has been a tremendous privilege to be a member of the State Senate and work with such wonderful colleagues. I am grateful for the camaraderie, the work we accomplished, and the valuable lessons learned. I would also like to thank my wife and children for their love, support, and shared belief in the importance of service. Most of all, I would like to express my thanks to the citizens of the 21st Legislative District, who placed their trust in my stewardship for all of these years; it has been my honor and privilege to serve them for the past 17 years. I look forward to assisting the Senate in making this transition as smooth as possible.”

I think Ed Murray will soon resign as well and I am still waiting to hear who will replace gary Alexander in the House.
